Built in
VectorCraft artwork opens directly in Illustrator.
No converter needed. VectorCraft saves .ai files that Illustrator opens as ordinary artwork, and exports PDF and SVG too.
Already compatible
Built into VectorCraft: Save As .ai, PDF or SVG. Nothing to convert.
No upload, no conversion. Here is how to do it, and what to check.
What carries over
- Paths, shapes, fills, strokes and gradients
- Text and placed images
- Artboards
- Layers and groups, with the Legacy (version 7) option
- PDF and SVG as other routes
How to send it
In VectorCraft choose File ▸ Save As…, pick ai and save. Illustrator opens it like any .ai. For layers and groups choose the Legacy (version 7) option, which saves one artboard per file.
Worth knowing
The .ai VectorCraft writes holds no Illustrator editing data, so Illustrator sees plain artwork: no live effects, no appearance stacks.
The legacy version 7 option has no transparency: objects are written opaque. For transparency use the default PDF-compatible .ai, or export SVG or PDF.
Questions
Will Illustrator open it?
Yes: the default is a PDF-compatible .ai and the legacy option is Adobe's published version 7 format, both of which Illustrator reads. We couldn't test in Illustrator ourselves, so check a file before sending it on.
Will my layers survive?
Only with the Legacy (version 7) option. The default keeps the artwork but not Illustrator's layer data.
Which is the safest route?
SVG or PDF for simple artwork; the .ai for something the other person will keep editing.
