Every release of the After Effects converter is tested on 644 projects saved by versions 2018 to 2026. Each one is converted, opened again, and compared with the original property by property. This page lists what that comparison covers, and the few things EffectCraft can't represent yet. The Premiere Pro converter and the EffectCraft to After Effects converter are described further down.
| Feature | Status | Notes |
| Folders, item names, labels | Converts | Duplicate names are kept as they are. |
| Composition settings | Converts | Size, pixel aspect, frame rate, duration, start timecode, background, work area, motion blur, frame blending. |
| Markers | Converts | Comp and layer markers, with comments, durations and labels. |
| Essential Graphics | Mostly | Controls and their values on precomp layers convert. Control groups become a flat list; media replacement controls aren't supported. |
| Feature | Status | Notes |
| Solids, footage, precomps, nulls, adjustment layers | Converts | Including timing, stretch (also reversed), time remapping, switches, blending modes, parenting and track mattes. |
| Text layers | Converts | Point and paragraph text, per-character formatting (font, size, colours, stroke, tracking, leading, scale, caps, baseline), paragraph alignment, indents and spacing, text animators and selectors. |
| Shape layers | Converts | Groups, paths, rectangles, ellipses, stars, fills, strokes with dashes, gradient fills and strokes, and path operations. |
| Cameras and lights | Converts | One- and two-node cameras; point, spot, parallel and ambient lights. |
| 3D mesh layers (cube, sphere, plane, torus, cone, cylinder) | Converts | With their dimensions and shadow settings. |
| 3D model layers (.fbx, .glb, .gltf, .obj) | Converts | The model file is relinked like any footage. |
| Masks | Converts | Paths, modes, inversion, feather, opacity, expansion, colours. |
| Layer styles | Mostly | Drop and inner shadow, outer and inner glow, bevel and emboss, satin, colour and gradient overlay, stroke. Pattern Overlay isn't available in EffectCraft. |
| Variable font axes in text animators | Not yet | EffectCraft has no animator property for them; they're listed in the report. |
| Feature | Status | Notes |
| After Effects' built-in effects | Converts | EffectCraft has its own version of each, with the same parameters. The converter pairs every parameter by name, so values land in the right place even where EffectCraft orders or groups them differently, and converts After Effects' internal units (some percentages are stored as 0–255). |
| Expression controls, Dropdown Menu Control | Converts | Dropdowns keep their menu items. |
| Curves | Mostly | Point and pencil curves convert; animated curves change in steps at each keyframe. |
| Third-party plug-ins (Sapphire, Red Giant, Video Copilot…) | Not available | They aren't part of EffectCraft. Each one is listed by name in the report. |
Some values are outside what EffectCraft allows and are set to its nearest limit, with a line in the report: for example text scaled beyond 1000%. Rendering settings (the Render Queue and output modules) aren't converted.
This converter writes a script, so what it covers is what After Effects' scripting can build. Each script is tested by running it in EffectCraft's own After Effects-compatible scripting engine and comparing the project that comes out with the original, property by property. The test set: 564 EffectCraft projects made from After Effects projects (544 come out identical; the other 20 differ only in what their report names), 8 projects built to use what those rarely do (every kind of ease, shapes with every item, masks, text with runs and animators, cameras and lights, all 306 EffectCraft effects, footage that exists, hostile names) and a real 14 MB project edited in EffectCraft. No difference is left that a report doesn't name. It has not been run in Adobe's After Effects: the Guide says what that leaves unchecked.
| Feature | Status | Notes |
| Folders, comps, labels, comments, comp settings | Converts | Size, pixel aspect, frame rate, duration, start time, background, work area, motion blur, 3D renderer. Values After Effects doesn't allow (a frame rate over 99) go to its limit, with a line in the report. |
| Footage (video, stills, sequences, audio, 3D models) | Converts | Imported from the path stored in the project, else from next to the script, else from the folder you give. A file the script can't find becomes a placeholder, named in the message at the end. |
| Solids, nulls, adjustment layers, precomps | Converts | Including timing, stretch (also reversed), time remapping, switches, blending modes, parenting and track mattes. |
| Text layers | Converts | Point and paragraph text, fonts, sizes, colours, stroke, tracking, leading, scale, caps, baseline, alignment, indents and spacing, keyed Source Text, text animators and selectors. Formatting of single characters needs a recent After Effects. |
| Shape layers | Converts | Groups, rectangles, ellipses, stars, paths (also animated), fills, strokes with dashes, taper and wave, trim paths, repeaters, round corners, zig-zag, merge, offset. |
| Gradient fills and strokes | Not possible | After Effects' scripting can't write a gradient. The shape is made and the report lists the colour stops so you can redo it. |
| Masks | Converts | Paths (also animated), modes, inversion, colour, feather, opacity, expansion, locking. |
| Cameras, lights, 3D layers | Converts | One- and two-node cameras with depth of field and iris, parallel, spot, point and ambient lights, orientation, material options. |
| 3D primitives (cube, sphere, plane...) | Not possible | After Effects has no scripting call to make one: a null layer stands in and the report says so. 3D models are imported when After Effects can read the file. |
| Markers | Mostly | Comp and layer markers with comments, durations, labels and cue points. After Effects keeps one marker per time. |
| Essential Graphics, motion trackers, guides | Not yet | Listed in the report. |
| Feature | Status | Notes |
| Keyframes | Converts | Linear, Bezier and hold interpolation with the exact eases (speed and influence), spatial tangents, continuity, roving, separated dimensions. |
| Expressions | Converts | Copied as written, enabled or disabled as in EffectCraft. |
| Effects After Effects has | Converts | Added by match name with every parameter, units converted back (EffectCraft's 0–100 to After Effects' 0–1 or 0–255 where they differ). |
| Effects only EffectCraft has (VR, OCIO, Face Track Points...) | Not available | The script tries the effect by name and the report lists each one, layer by layer. |
| Curves, LUT files, Dropdown Menu items, gradients inside effects | Not possible | After Effects' scripting can't set them. The effect is added with its other parameters; for a dropdown the chosen item is set. |
| Layer styles | Mostly | Drop and inner shadow, outer and inner glow, bevel and emboss, satin, colour and gradient overlay, stroke, Global Light and Advanced Blending. Gradients inside styles aren't possible; a style switched off in EffectCraft is left out. |
The Premiere Pro converter is tested the same way, on 117 projects: 116 test projects (most are small single-feature ones saved by Premiere Pro 2026, a few are real-world projects) and one project from an older release. Each is converted by FilmCraft's own importer, saved by FilmCraft's own writer, then read back and compared with the original: tracks, clips, source in and out points, speed, transitions, markers, captions, audio levels, Motion and Opacity values and their keyframes, and the values of the effects listed below. 87 match on everything compared; the other 30 lose something that is named in their report, and none differs in a way the report doesn't mention.
| Feature | Status | Notes |
| Bins, sequences, nested sequences, labels | Converts | Bins keep their names and what is in them. Sequences keep frame size and rate (including odd ones such as 29.845 fps) and their track layout. |
| Video and audio clips | Converts | Position, source in and out (to the tick), constant speed and reverse, disabled clips, muted and locked tracks, linked video and audio. |
| Markers | Mostly | On sequences and on clips, with name, comment and duration. Marker colours become FilmCraft's default. |
| Captions | Converts | Text and timing, one FilmCraft caption track for each Premiere one. Caption styles aren't carried. |
| Color Matte, Black Video, Transparent Video, Bars and Tone, Counting Leader, Adjustment Layers | Converts | Adjustment layers keep their effects and length. |
| Titles (text) | Mostly | Text, position, size and alignment, plus the font name and plain colours, outline and shadow. Animated text and styled runs aren't carried. |
| Shapes and masks in graphics | Not yet | The clip keeps its place as an empty clip and the report names it. |
| Variable speed (Time Remapping keyframes) | Not yet | The clip plays at one constant speed and the report says so. |
| Feature | Status | Notes |
| Motion: position, scale (also non-uniform), rotation, anchor point | Converts | Values and keyframe times are compared. Linear, hold and Bezier interpolation; Bezier handles come across as FilmCraft's standard ones. |
| Opacity and all 26 blend modes | Converts | With keyframes. |
| Audio levels, channel volume | Converts | In decibels, with keyframes. |
| Video effects FilmCraft has | Converts | Gaussian Blur, Brightness and Contrast, Tint, Invert, Sharpen, Unsharp Mask, Posterize, Mosaic, Black and White, Levels, Crop, Directional Blur, Transform, Corner Pin, Ramp, Color Key, Noise, Offset, Magnify, Wave Warp, Emboss, Color Emboss, Channel Blur, Linear Wipe, Replicate, Track Matte Key, Timecode, with their keyframes. |
| Lumetri Color | Mostly | Temperature, tint, exposure, contrast, highlights, shadows, whites, blacks, saturation, faded film, sharpen, vibrance and vignette. Curves, colour wheels, HSL secondary, LUTs and looks are reported. |
| Other effects and third-party plug-ins | Not available | Listed by name, clip by clip, in the report. |
| Video transitions | Mostly | Cross Dissolve and the other transitions FilmCraft has under the same name, with their length and position. One FilmCraft doesn't have becomes a Cross Dissolve and is reported. |
| Audio transitions | Mostly | Constant Power, Constant Gain, Exponential Fade. Custom Fade becomes Constant Power and is reported. |
Media files aren't uploaded, so FilmCraft shows them as offline until it finds them: files in the same place reconnect by themselves, and the rest relink from the Project panel (right-click the offline media, then Link Media). Projects over about 250 MB of unpacked project data aren't accepted.
