DesignCraft.designcraft InDesign.idml Built in

DesignCraft layouts open directly in InDesign.

No converter needed. DesignCraft exports IDML, InDesign's own interchange format, and InDesign opens it.

Already compatible

Built into DesignCraft: export IDML, InDesign opens it. Nothing to convert.

No upload, no conversion. Here is how to do it, and what to check.

What carries over

  • Pages, spreads and parent pages
  • Text frames with their threads
  • Paragraph, character and object styles
  • Linked images
  • Swatches and gradients

How to send it

In DesignCraft export the document as IDML. In InDesign choose File ▸ Open and pick the .idml, then File ▸ Save As to keep it as a normal .indd.

Worth knowing

The DesignCraft team checked exported files by opening them in InDesign 2026, by hand, but testing on real documents is still limited. Check text that overflows, fonts that are substituted and linked images before you send it on.

Fonts travel separately: install the same ones on the InDesign computer.

Questions

Do I need to convert anything?

No. IDML is the format InDesign itself uses to exchange documents.

What about my images?

Linked images are referenced by path: put them next to the .idml, or relink them in InDesign.

Will it be identical?

Close, not guaranteed. Check the pages that matter before sending.
